Putnam of Lottsburgh, Virginia, wished to have it done but as, in the course of my work, I have become better acquainted with Sallie Holley I have counted myself fortunate in being brought into such intimate relations with her mind and heart. She was a rarely intelligent and noble woman, deeply engaged in a great cause, and laying some of its lowliest burdens on herself in a spirit of lofty consecration and mast patient love.
