In the village of Kaunolu, penalties for breaking kapu, the island's sacred laws, are severe: strangulation, clubbing, burning, death. Something sixteen-year-old best friends Rena and Sarai have long since disagreed upon. So when Rena is accused of stealing water then banished to a remote island, Sarai knows something is wrong; Rena would never break kapu, not with these laws so dear to her heart.
