Does He Drink Too Much?

Publisher Marketing: Alcohol and Relationships Going Bad. Written to the woman partnered with a man who drinks too much, this book brings you many facts that are not widely known about what we call "over-drinking." It also highlights facts known by some but kept from the public regarding drinking and its treatment. It looks at "problem drinking," which, simply, is drinking that causes problems. Another is the myth of "treatment" as a cure, which it definitely is not for the majority of men who try it. A man doesn't have to be what anyone would call an alcoholic to be wreaking havoc in the life and heart of his woman. As a licensed psychotherapist the author has worked intimately with drinkers and their families for over 40 years and she has found some astonishing facts that should be widely known public information--but they are not. Drinkers' lives hinge on understanding their problem, but that's only part of the problem. The woman living with, staying with, the "over-drinker" almost always does so because she has the hope, the dream, that one day, one day--he's going to see the light. Not only does she need to know that the chances are extremely slim that this will happen, she needs to know what will happen to her. Gradually worn down, mentally, emotionally, and physically, her life is ruined as surely as the drinker's. Copeland wrote this book because she has found that almost all women who stay with a man who drinks too much hang in because they have the faint hope--the dream that is nearly always just a fantasy, that he is going to see the light, mend his ways, and then everything will be wonderful again. Not only are chances slim that the over-drinker will mend his ways, it will take years and years and years of his ever-worsening behavior, and an intolerable mass of serious problems--the accrual of which takes from five to twenty years. We look at what happens to his woman, and offer her many options. Best of all, Copeland fills the book with tips and "tricks" for coping with a drinking man--tips and tricks that have worked for hundreds, thousands of women. It takes a special type of woman to get caught in this painful situation: She must be loving, giving, caring, generous, compassionate, forgiving, and much more. These personality qualities are the finest human qualities. But gradually her day-to-day experiences with an over-drinker smother her light. Many will see her as weak. Far from it. It requires strength beyond that of most people to endure the tearing down, the bad behavior, to the point she almost forgets who she really is. But she can lose herself. One of nature's most precious humans, with these incredible qualities, eventually loses touch with herself, especially with the fact that she possesses such valuable traits, comes to doubt herself, even to dislike herself. No more! This book explains to her what has been going on, what he's becoming, and how his drinking creates the very behaviors that break her heart and make her life difficult. And for many of the years he tears down this road, he has a good chance of turning it around--but not after drinking inflicts certain damages to his brain cells. Here she will find a trove of tricks, tactics, techniques ("tricks" sounds like more fun--which they often are. Copeland tackles this heavy problem and breaks it down into everyday language. he tosses in a good bit of humor, which some have said makes the book especially good reading.
