Hazel Templeton was born and raised in Savannah, GA. She is engaged to a youth pastor in her adoptive father's church there, when suddenly her whole world tumbles to tiny pieces. She moves clear across the country to Bend, Oregon to try to begin her life again, this time without the interfering God of her youth. She gets a new job, makes a few friends, and then suddenly she finds one of her friends dead, and she is arrested and charged with his murder. She falls hard for the detective assigned to the case, but he's Christian, and she isn't sure that will work at all.
