Vanished Explorers

Vanished Explorers: A Tale about the First Americans of the Great Basin is the second novel written by Eileen M. Starr, PhD. This story concerns the first peoples to inhabit the Great Basin region of the inland Pacific west of the United States at the end of the last Ice Age, over 11,000 years ago. "Home" for this family is a one of the five caves located near the town of Paisley in Central Oregon. At this time, giant Ice Age animals still roamed the land. Saber-toothed cats, mammoths, mastodons, and cave bears, are all actors in this drama of life and death, along with dire wolves, camels, and rabbits. Designed for Middle School readers, this book complements Dr. Starr's first book, Vanished Explorers: A Tale about the first Americans, people who traveled eastward along the Columbia River to sett le in the Pacific Northwest. This tale follows Snowy Plover, a young lady who has lived through twelve Warm Times, along with her two brothers, Bounding Bison, age six and Leaping Deer, age fourteen, plus their parents.
