Goin' Home to Mama

New Orleans Rhythm and Blues singer/songwriter Timothea was ten years old when she first started singing in front of her Aunt's jukebox at the Ave A bar in Westwego La. Her dressing room was a phone booth and her first cover song was Jackie Wilson's big hit 'Baby Workout'. By the time she was twelve she was on the circuit with such New Orleans giants as Earl King, Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville, Ernie K-Doe and many more. Timothea cut her first single at fourteen years old which appropriately, 'Teenage Prayer'. a couple of marriages, a trip to the West coast and two sons came along before she was eighteen years old. In the 1980's Timothea looked up her old friend Earl King who took the time to help her get started again. She then released two single written by Earl King. Soon after that Timothea joined up with the late Johnny Adams and Walter ' Wolfman ' Washington going on the road and playing at Dorthy's Madaleon It was during this time that Timothea and the 'Wolfman' became best buddies. Working together they created Walter Washington's first release on Rounder Records, 'Wolftracks' . In 1987 it was nominated for best song 'Thinking for yourself' and best album. This was the beginning of Timothea's writing career. Timothea and Walter decided to put together their own band and going on the road. They named the band the Roadmasters after her Roadmaster bike. After three years of touring they decided to both go out on their own You can also see Timothea in the movie 'Down by Law' playing a street walker named Julie. After her movie debut and the breakup she decided to move to New York. After a couple of years of singing in New York City and abroad Timothea wrote, produced and released her first CD called 'Twisted Funky and Blue'. In 1993 Timothea moved back home to her roots where she started her own record label 'Blue Soul Records ', Timothea's first release on the label was 'Goin Home To MaMa', soon after she produced a CD for guitarist Amedee Frederick's called the 'Creole Man'. 'From The School Of Hard Knocks' came next followed by her newest CD entitled 'No Nonsense' which was released in May 2000. It has been said that Rhythm & Blues are best delivered after they've been lived and listening to Timothea belt them out, you can also feel the heartbreak that has come her way. But, and more importantly, you can also feel the catharsis that comes from transforming such adversity to verse.
