The Essential Foo Fighters contains all of the band's greatest hits. 21 songs on the LP edition ('Breakout' and 'Waiting On A War' as bonus tracks, not featured on the CD version). The band released their first Greatest Hits album in 2009, but since then they have released 4 studio albums and an EP, and the new Essential collection spans their entire career as of 2022.

At the same time, The Essential Foo Fighters is a great overview of the band's career with Taylor Hawkins on drums. An integral part of the band since 1997 and until his death in 2022, at the age of just 50 years.
